You are never too small to worry about online security. The Weave’s top 4 tips for online safety.

Even companies with the most sophisticated solutions fall prey to phishing, data loss and security breaches that could cost thousands.

Hi gang, I’ve always been really obsessed with keeping myself and my valuable data secure. That hasn’t changed since working for The Weave and so I wrote this article. As always, I have shared the first paragraph here in the hope that you will head over to the main site to get all the tips. These are 4 tips that I think are most important in keeping you secure in an ever-connected environment.

You may be a sole trader or 2 person dog grooming service, or you could be a growing business with high aspirations, whatever your background, never assume that you are too small to worry about cyber security.

It’s a sad reality of business that as we move towards a more omni-connected society, that will offer more opportunities for criminals to take advantage of businesses that have neglected their online safety.

There was a time when you would read stories about large institutions that have been targeted by coordinated online attacks. Sometimes these attacks would be to steal information which could be sold or used in a nefarious way, or sometimes the organisation’s information was held to ransom and large amounts of money were demanded for its release. The latter is what befell many NHS hospital trusts several years back. When you looked at these stories, if you were honest with yourself, I bet you thought it was inevitable that companies like Sony or Netflix would attract the attention of tech-savvy attackers. However, for every high profile case that makes the news, there are hundreds of heartbreaking stories of hard-working businesses and entrepreneurs that have lost everything. So with the acceptance that you are at risk, there is no cause for panic as there are clear and simple things that you can do to protect yourself.
